For me, art is a journey of self-discovery – a reflection of my experience with life, nature, and the spirit in all things. My work can be raw and organic or soft and vulnerable, evoking a sense of the feminine in the world. Each piece I create begins with a heartfelt inspiration from within. Once the imagery and form are set, the technical process starts. I begin by hand cutting each shape from a sheet of glass and in using a special fusible paint, I add minute details bringing life to each piece. Next, through the layering of various sizes and colors of crushed glass (frit), and firing each piece multiple times at high temperatures, color, pattern, and depth emerge, resulting in an image that embodies the spirit of the subject matter.
Although I work in a variety of mediums, kiln fired glass is my favorite. Wanting to create the inspirations that I see in my head into glass form leads me to further develop new techniques. Occasionally, the results are not what I expected which only opens the door for a new way to work with glass and develop new processes. I love the challenge of experimenting with new techniques to bring my visions to fruition. It’s always a call to grow both myself and my art.
