Cheryl Crane was born and raised in the Midwest. From an early age she showed an affinity for creating art, frequently sketching and painting but never taking it seriously. She married her husband, Larry, in 1978 and took on a variety of part-time jobs and returned to school until 1997 when she received her degree as an Occupational Therapy Assistant and began working at Meriter Child/Adolescent Psychiatric Hospital in Madison, WI. Her role there was to lead a variety of art and self-expression type groups. This brought her back to her artistic roots. One day in 1999, Cheryl saw an ad for a local glass studio and for fun enrolled both she and her father in a stained glass class. From there her love of the glass medium exploded and Crane began learning every technique in stained and kiln formed glass that she could through self-study and by taking classes with several leaders in the industry. Eventually, she began teaching classes for the studio where she got her start. In 2006, Cheryl started a small glass business, selling her art in various galleries and gift shops in the Madison area. Wanting to take things a step further, Crane partnered with her dear friend, Margaret Greene in 2010 and opened Frittin’ Around, LLC a glass art business dedicated to both creating art and teaching art glass techniques in studios and at industry conferences across the country. However, in 2013 their venture came to an end when Margaret moved from Wisconsin and Cheryl and her husband decided to begin their retirement dream by moving to beautiful Chromo, CO. After getting settled in their new surroundings, Cheryl once again got the “artistic itch” and she went back into her studio to “play”. It was not long and she had built an inventory of artwork and a desire to be in business again. In 2018 she started CBCrane Fine Art giving her a way to send her glass and mixed-media creations out into the world.
