Feathers
Each shape is carefully hand cut from a sheet of glass. A special fusible glass paint is then applied to add the details that brings life to each feather. From there, various sizes and colors of frit (crushed glass) are layered and the piece is fired multiple times at high temperatures yielding a feather that resembles those found in nature. Finally, to add an extra touch, the feathers are wire wrapped and beaded with metal, glass, or natural stone beads and hung from branches that I find on my land and hand finish.
Leaves and Leaf Bowls
Each shape is carefully hand cut from a sheet of glass. A special fusible glass paint is then applied to bring forth the veining and detail in each leaf bowl. From there, various sizes and colors of crushed glass (frit) are layered and the piece is fired multiple times at high temperatures. Finally, each leaf is fired one last time at a lower temperature to give it shape, yielding a leaf that resembles one found in nature. As a finishing touch, each bowl is placed on a stand created from materials found on my land in Chromo, CO.
The “Spirit Beings” Series
Each “Being” is hand cut from a sheet of glass. A special fusible glass paint is applied creating the lines and patterns specific to the artist’s design. From there, various sizes and colors of frit (crushed glass) or additional pieces of glass are layered and the piece is fired multiple times at high temperatures. The “Beings” are then mounted using various materials such as stone, wood, glass or metal to complete the image originally envisioned by the artist. Although some are limited addition pieces, no two will ever be exactly the same due to the nature of the technical processes involved.
The “Elements of Nature” Series
All pieces in this series are one of a kind. Each “Shield” is hand cut from a sheet of glass. Various sizes and colors of crushed glass (frit) and miscellaneous pieces of glass are layered on top and it is fired at high temperatures one or more times until the desired effect is achieved. From there, the artist allows the piece speak. Based on the design that comes out of the kiln, a copper overlay is hand cut, applied, and soldered onto the front, sides and/or back. Finally, miscellaneous adornments such as wood, real feathers, stones, crystals, metalwork, or hand-made glass pieces are added to complete the artist’s vision.
